Pete Ashdown for US Senate

Those who know me know that I am not Orrin Hatch's biggest fan. In fact, I'd go as far as saying I severely dislike the man. He supported destroying PCs of suspected software pirates (even though he pirated software himself - oops!), sponsored the INDUCE Act, supported tightening bankruptcy laws to help "Americans become more trustworthy and decent" (sort of like the US Government, who does an excellent job of managing its budget?), and is an all-around jerk. I attended a breakfast in 2004, where he said if we didn't vote for Bush, the terrorists would attack and kill us.

Needless to say, I was excited when I heard Pete Ashdown was going to oppose him in the 2006 race. It would be easy to get caught up in the "Anyone but X" idea, but I've tried to resist that - after all, the whole "Anyone but Bush" platform didn't work out so hot for us in 2004, did it? That is why I'm glad that Pete is someone I can support - I think he has a lot of really great ideas and will make an excellent Senator.

The most interesting and innovative part of his campaign is his wiki - the first of its kind in a Senatorial that I am aware of. This allows any regular joe like me to contribute to the policy positions and ideas behind the campaign - and presumably will give us continued input after he is elected. I really hope this sort of thing catches on more in America, as it gives us unprecedented access to our leaders. If a wiki isn't democracy, I don't know what is.

Good luck, Pete.

I agree wholeheartedly and have written a more detailed analysis, if anyone would like to read it.
