In case you missed it, over the weekend, Orrin Hatch claimed that Saddam was in bed with Al Qaida.
“And, more importantly, we’ve stopped a mass murderer in Saddam Hussein. Nobody denies that he was supporting al-Qaida.”
In a clear attack on Democrats, Hatch added, “Well, I shouldn’t say nobody. Nobody with brains.”
Wow. Even coming from someone as stupid, hackish, and dishonest as Orrin Hatch, this is surprising. Especially considering that the 9/11 commission, President Bush, the Senate Intelligence Committe (which he sits on!), and basically the rest of the world disagrees with him. Good thing its only “flip-flopping” if you are a Democrat, as he came out today and basically said “I didn’t mean that”.
Dear Utahns,
Why do you keep voting for this guy?
Sincerely,
Me
On a related note, at the Saturday meeting, Rep. LaVar Christensen of Draper (Running against Jim Matheson for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District) had some words of wisdom of his own:
“I’m passionate and I think the Republican difference matters. … The Republican principles are the right vision for America. It’s the map and compass that has guided us.
“Without this map and compass, we’d be wandering.”
Yeah, good thing we have that map & compass. Without the map, we might be wandering around in some desert wasting billions of dollars, thousands of lives, pissing off everyone in the world, and accomplishing nothing. Without the compass, we might be trampling all over the constitution, leaking the identities of secret agents to the press, and we might even be mired in scandal after scandal. Good call, LaVar.

1Sorry, dude - it’s not just Utah. You are witnessing the fable that is history, to paraphrase Voltaire. Most Amerikans believe the same lie, not having read anything but the history written by the ‘victors’. Pity, really. Amerika could have been the light of the world instead of an abyss of ignorance.
but with people like you there’s still help.
