With all the buzz about iTunes not working properly on Windows Vista, I was worried when I decided to upgrade over the weekend. I found some instructions from Apple that recommended I deauthorize all of my accounts and uninstall iTunes prior to installing Vista, which I followed.

The actual Vista upgrade was somewhat harrowing - my license key wouldn’t work and it took several hours to straighten that out. After I got it squared away, my first task (yes, even before seeing if World of Warcraft would work properly) was to see if iTunes would work. So, I downloaded and re-installed it. When I went to play a song that I had purchased from the iTunes music store, it asked me to authorize the computer (expected), but then asked me to do it again (unexpected). The dreaded iTunes on Vista bug had struck!

As I did some detective work to see what was going on, I noticed that iTunes had left behind some files in C:\Program Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info. I removed them, relaunched iTunes, authorized once more and my music began playing!

This doesn’t (to my knowledge) resolve any iPod issues - I haven’t had any. Also, I can’t guarantee it will work for everyone, but it was a quick fix that worked for me.
